I have what feels like a bazillion underwater photos, mostly macros of slow moving critters. So here is a small collection of animals with strange eyes from Wakatobi, Sulawesi Tenggara, Indonesia. Starting with the green lightning of the dwarf lionfish.
The crocodilefish is fun to shoot, with their pajama pattern, long, grumpy face, and pretty low-key demeanor, but their eyes are world famous. Apparently, that lacy iris helps them camouflage.
These Porcupinefish are possibly the sweetest looking little ones ever! All of there eyes were glittery.
These two, the mantis shrimp and the cuttle fish are probably my two favorite animals and they both have crazy eyes!
